We tried something very different for our duo as we often rely on acoustic feedback as a core part of our creative and improvisatory practice. So, going to the historic anechoic chamber at Bell Labs was especially fascinating to us as to how we would adjust our practice for a space that absorbs sound so completely.
We placed speaker cones atop foamcore on the net that suspends visitors above the sound absorbing panels in the space, and that utilized the Geofón made by LOM to capture the vibrations through that same net. As a result, we attempted to cycle sound between the amplified bobbin lace and the net. The sounds from the bobbin lace were generated as Olivia wove a design based on the geometry of the net itself.
