Continuing to celebrate the release of our third album, Live from the Davis St. Drawing Room, we happily ventured to Providence thanks to the invitation from the wonderful people at SRST at RISD and the RISD Museum. We were able to give a class demonstration in the amazing ambisonic studio at SRST, again playing with the multichannel potential of the project and presenting to students studying sound and textiles from two separate classes.
The next day we performed in the RISD Museum (featured in the above animation). We were able to perform in the galleries, placing microphones in the two rooms immediately adjoining the space where we were performing. As a result, the sonic tapestry included sounds from the Ancient Greek & Roman Galleries as well as the sounds of elevators, staircases, and passersby moving through the exhibitions. Olivia worked from details from the painting Portrait of a Woman, 1655, by Bartholomeus van der Helst, one half of a marriage portrait that was on view in the gallery that day.
